SYDNEY | WAVES OF STYLE
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring Summer 2012/13
The height of the Australian fashion and beauty calendar is just days away from unleashing waves of style for a 5-day marathon. The road to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Spring Summer 2012/2013 has been long, with a few bumps along the way, but the end result is within reach and we are gearing up for what we hope to be the Fashion Week of the year!
Notably the biggest shock to come out pre-Fashion Week was just last week when both Dion Lee and Josh Goot withdrew themselves from the line up. Both labels have quickly risen to being among Australia’s most promising fashion labels, and undeniably they were a key draw card for many attendee’s, however they both feel at this time their efforts are better spent investing in growing their overseas presence. Let’s hope this is just a once off and we will see both powerhouses back on our Fashion Week schedules next time.
Even without Dion Lee and Josh Goot, there are still some big names that will get fashion circles talking. The fun and games officially begin this Monday with a cracking line up. Romance Was Born will open the day at 9am with what will surely be a collection to remember, followed by Lisa Maree, Gail Sorronda, Gary Bigeni, Kirrily Johnston, Camilla, Dylan Cooper, Miss Unkon, Manning Cartell, Aurelio Costarella, Whitney Eve and WE by Whitney Eve, Ksubi and Ginger & Smart. Could this be the best day of the week? We will have to wait and see!
Other key shows we will be keeping an eye out for will be Michael Lo Sordo and Mercedes-Benz Presents Johanna Johnston on Tuesday, Lisa Ho and Bec & Bridge on Wednesday, Roopa Pemmaraju and Carl Kapp on Thursday, and lastly Bless’ed Are The Meek and Nana Judy on Friday.
This year Mercedes-Benz welcomes Maybelline New York as the official cosmetic sponsor. While Maybelline’s official details of participation are yet to be announced, we do know that Nigel Stanislaus, Australia’s Maybelline NY Makeup Director, will be backstage creating the seasons latest beauty looks at some of the week’s shows including Lisa Maree, Alice McCall, Michael Lo Sordo, An Ode to No One, Sara Phillips and Ksubi.
Once again homegrown cosmetic hero Napoleon Perdis will be on site working behind some of the weeks biggest shows. The big man and his impressive team of makeup artists will be working on at least 15 shows this year, creating individual, trend-leading looks.
The big player in hair will again be ghd, with three of their most talented stylists leading the teams behind 9 big names, including Romance Was Born, Toni Maticevski and Fernando Frissoni.
