cloak-and-daggerHEY, BIG CITY
New York is the city that never sleeps, that means unlimited time to punch up your style. I know it's not fair. But here's how to: Dress like a New Yorker.

Cloak and Dagger, in Manhattan’s East Village, is the little boutique with an unremarkable white storefront that belies the one-of-a-kind jewels that are hidden within. The store caters to Downtown trendsetters and celebrity clientele alike, carrying a perfectly edited collection of original designs, garments from previous seasons, as well as retro numbers. All of the looks are of the moment, without being overly trendy, and the older pieces blend seamlessly into the stores aesthetic, without ever feeling cheesy or outdated.

Cloak and Dagger got its start as a label in 2006 when designer Brookelynn Starnes became disenchanted with the direction the fashion industry was taking. She said, "I felt there was a decline in the care of garment construction and the way women dress. The shapes and fabrics I was looking for were not in the market. I wanted to make clothes that were fun and comfortable to wear yet chic and refined". So Starnes went out and opened her label’s first flagship store in New York City in 2009, bringing her unique attention to detail and luxury fabrics to the masses. She is now an international presence in the fashion community, selling her designs at high-end stores in Japan, the Middle East, and across Europe, as well as opening a brand new Cloak and Dagger outpost in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn.

After graduating with a BFA from Pratt Institute, Starnes has styled for celebrities as well as top fashion houses including Valentino, Prada, and Zac Posen, and has also worked as a designer for Libertine, where she honed her vision of what she did and didn’t want her own line to be. Starnes translated her high fashion training and tastes into chic, affordable designs for young women that don’t skimp on quality or painstaking construction. For her work, Starnes has been honored in the past as a semifinalist in the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award, a guest of honor at St. Louis Fashion Week, and was chosen to open the Spring/Summer 2010 Gen Art Fresh Faces Fashion Show. Cloak and Dagger has also just recently added a fully shoppable website featuring all of the goods available in store, plus more from past collections. So now, even if you aren’t technically a New Yorker, Cloak and Dagger has made it easier than ever to dress like one.
